T-Mobile adding four major content providers to Binge On, users have streamed 34 petabytes of video

T-Mobile's Binge On, which enables users to stream video from select content providers without using data from their monthly allowance, sounds awesome, especially for those on a tight data allowance plan. Official word is that Binge On does this by optimizing the video streams, but in reality, the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) found out that T-Mobile also throttles the HTML5 video throughput of other providers (most probably YouTube) down to 1.5Mbps for those who have Binge On enabled. And by default, this means all T-Mobile subscibers, even those with unlimited data plans. Even T-Mobile's CEO, John Legere, had to defend Binge On from its attackers in a video.Regardless of the controversies surrounding it, it seems that Binge On is quite appreciated by Team Magenta's userbase. After all, the latter has streamed 34 petabytes of video content since the feature's arrival, which is a mind-boggling amount of data. To put it in perspective, a petabyte consist of 1024 terabytes, while a terabyte, as you probably know, equals 1024 gigabytes. That's impressive!Well, today T-Mobile made Binge On a bit more awesome than before, so to speak, as four new content providers were added to the mix. Amazon Video, Fox News, Univision NOW from Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), and the WWE® Network have just made the cut. You can now watch The Rock, Triple H, and that one-guy-that-you-can't-see slam each other for free!

Additionally, T-Mobile says that users will be able to update their Binge On preferences much easier than before, as it has streamlined its mobile app and the web interface for the service. The updated app will roll out to all users in the coming weeks. New short codes for managing Binge On's settings have also been introduced - for example, dialing #BNG# (#264#) will open your settings, #BOF# (#263#) will disable Binge On, and finally, keying in #BON# (#266#) will turn it on.
