Facebook Portal and Portal+ smart displays get $50 discount for Black Friday

Just in case Facebook didn’t have a tough enough job competing with the likes of Amazon and Google in the “smart display” space, the second-generation Echo Show, Google Home Hub, and Lenovo’s fittingly named 10-incher all got deep Black Friday price cuts.

The smaller model costs $149 after this special markdown, while the plus-sized version will set you back $299 instead of $349. In contrast, Amazon’s all-new Echo Show currently goes for $179.99 (down from a $230 list price), with the Google Home Hub discounted to a crazy low $99 nationwide, and the 10-inch Lenovo Smart Display available at $150 from Costco.

Bottom line, the Portal and Portal+ are yet to enter outright bargain territory, which however is unlikely to happen anytime soon. After all, privacy concerns and content omissions aside, these can be extremely attractive devices... for a certain demographic.

Their innovative “Smart Camera” technology makes the video calling experience more convenient and intuitive than ever, as you’re free to move around the house while the Portal will keep you and the family in the frame at all times.

The Facebook Portal+ is also much larger than its rivals, with a 15.6-inch display that can be easily switched from portrait to landscape orientation. Oh, and did we mention these smart displays use Alexa for voice commands just like the Echo Show? Come on, admit you’re tempted to give one of these two a chance! We promise we won't judge.
